Schladming and Night Race
Just been hangin out in Schladming for the past few days taking in some of the touristy stuff. It is a pretty cool area to hang out. Beautiful hikes and rides around here.
I was supposed to take the weekend off from racing, but we had noticed a bunch of flags set up down the steep grassy field in the finish area of the World Cup track so we had to investigate. Turned out there was a Saturday night Dual Slalom race. I just couldn't resist a few flat grassy turns and some sketchy jumps off metal grates! I had to race! There were 4 girls, and I qualified the fastest. It was kind of crazy the whole time. The track was quite steep and the turns were very slick. I felt out of control most of the time, especially since you really couldn't slow down once you got up to speed. I held it together though and won the race over another World Cup rider Petra Bernard. It was a bit of fun for a Saturday. Racing under the flood lights is always pretty cool! It was all televised too and had quite the turn out from the locals so it was great.
Just resting up now and getting settled in our accomodation. Stoked to ride this track later in the week. I think it is mostly the same, just a few new sections up the top!
2008 World Cup dates are out now. Check out TranscendMagazine.com for info.
