Paul Miles - '08 GR Mechanic

Welcome to the team Paul!
Date of Birth: 26 May 1986
Hometown: Aylesbury (Buckinghamshire)
Years as a mech: Almost 7 now
Do you Ride: Yes. I do a bit of XC every now and again but I have just bought myself a new 4X hardtail so I might try a 4X race this year. DH is my favourite! Just can't beat going flat out down a run and getting loose in the turns.
Why a mech... what do you love about it: Simple really - I like fixing things and I like bikes so they go together pretty well.
Who got you into it: Kind of my brother. He was into the mountain bike scene back in 1997 but never carried it on and I found one of his old Mountain bike magazines and just thought i looked fun and its kind of stuck since then.
Hobbies: Riding of course. Any kind: DH, XC, 4X and even road on the odd occasion. Tae Kwon Do, anything outdoors to be honest, and I want to have a go at base jumping and snow boarding this year.
Tunes: Muse - Super Massive Black Hole, Paramore - But I can't remember the song?
Movies: White Chicks at the moment
Book: Mice and Men
Inspirations: My parents. They raised 3 boys! That's pretty hard.
Heard Saying: "Miles of Smiles"
What pumps you up: Waking up to the sun in my eyes on my day off
What makes you mad: Lazy people and slow drivers in fast cars
What do you do to relax: Ride or head down to the pub with my mate Dan for a game of pool, a drink and a roast dinner.
What makes you smile: Anything and everything
What are you looking forward to most about wrenching for GR: The experience of working on the World Cup circuit with a Pro Rider and brilliant team mates
Anything Else: Just I'm stoked to be on the GR team for 08 and hopefully I can do my part to help Fionn win some World Cup Events. Also thanks to Jill and Fionn for letting me come on board!

New GR website
I know, I know... post more blog entries. Truth be told after working through Elke's training programs, getting the ball rolling with sponsors, working through the massive "to-do" list Jill just sent me and trying to help Jill build our new team website - GriffithsRacing.net, I haven't hardly had time to check my own email!
I am getting excited for the launch of this new sitel though. Should be SWEET. Should be any day now. I will be sure to let everyone know.
I almost forgot to fill everyone in on this - I GOT A NEW TATTOO. I guess its not really new anymore, but it just occurred to me now to post a photo! So here it is. To remind me to always chase my dreams...

Norco World Team

For 2008 Griffiths Racing and Norco Performance Bikes have decided to join efforts to create a brand new UCI Trade Team- NORCO WORLD TEAM. Jill and I are both super stoked on this, as are the guys at Norco. With UCI Trade Team status we will have guaranteed tech space at all rounds of the World Cup, which will be a huge relief for the entire team, especially for my mechanic. I have added the new team logo up here and I am just working now with thecyclejersey.com to design our team jerseys. I really can't wait for racing to start now! Thanks again to all the crew at Norco for making this possible.

Back to the UK
Well, now that the holidays are over I am back in the UK and already starting into pre-season training for 2008! Once again I have teamed up with Elke Brutsaert and she has created a whole new load of creative torture techniques for me! haha. just kidding. I'm excited to be back training. I am sponsored by a gym here in Shropshire - Welti Tennis and Leisure. It is such a great place to train - really high tech machines and such a clean, positive environment. It makes it really easy to be motivated! Thanks again to the team at Welti!
I think I am off for an XC ride with long time friends Rachel Atherton and Helen Gaskell tomorrow. That should be a blast. I travel and live overseas so much now that I don't get to ride with these two often. I'm looking forward to it.
